Leaving a Legacy and Remembering the Future

What Is the Legacy Society?

The Red Cross honors every planned gift donor with membership in the Legacy Society.

We invite you to become a member of the Legacy Society, created exclusively to honor

and recognize people who have helped to continue our lifesaving work through a gift to the

American Red Cross in their wills, trusts or estate plans. As a Red Cross Legacy Society

member, you’ll receive a certificate of appreciation and a Legacy Society lapel pin to serve as a reminder to others of

your support of our mission. Your gift can be recognized publicly, unless you prefer to give anonymously. The society

also provides information and assistance to donors considering a planned gift.

The Legacy Society acknowledges a special group of individuals who are current and

future benefactors of the Red Cross. Through their estate plans, members of The Legacy

Society ensure that the Red Cross will always be ready with compassionate assistance

wherever and whenever people need help.

Have you thought about what will happen to your belongings and estate in the event of an

unexpected death?  People often ignore the importance of making a will because they do

not want to think about dying or they think that it will be taken care of after they are gone.

In fact, 70% of the adults in the United States die without making a will, which leaves the

decision to divide up the property and other assets to the state, not necessarily in accordance

with  your wishes.  After spending your life building an estate, you can direct where it goes,

o whom, and how much if you leave it stated in your will.  A will also provides the opportunity

to remember a charity, like the American Red Cross.

Wouldn't you feel good knowing that your money could help the largest humanitarian organization

in the world dedicated to giving relief to those who need it?  The Northwest North Carolina Chapter

of the American Red Cross has a sound fiscal management and provides services through more than

500 trained volunteers.  The chapter derives maximum benefit for every gift.  The money from your

donation could go to helping pay for food, clothing and housing in disaster relief, giving blood to a

child with leukemia, or teaching new parents infant CPR right here in our community.

Interested parties can make this gesture through a will, a trust, or other planned gifts.  Such planned

gift donors then become a part of the Legacy Society and recognized publicly, unless the donor prefers

to give anonymously.  A legacy can be left as a memorial gift, recognizing someone who has made a

difference in your life.  A planned gift may also offer many potential advantages, such as federal estate

tax savings, the elimination of capital gains taxes, and the opportunity to increase spendable income.

What Is the Next Step?

If you have already arranged for a bequest or other planned gift, we would like to honor your support please notify us and become a member. If you are still considering such a gift, let us know so we can help you and your advisors complete your gift in a way that benefits your estate and makes clear your intention to help the Red Cross.

When you join the Legacy Society, you demonstrate your commitment to the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross and help ensure the long-term strength of the organization.
