Paul W. Barnes, vice president of quality and leadership development at BB&T Corporation, has been elected to a two-year term as Chairman of the Board of the Northwest North Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross. He has been a member of the chapter’s board since 2001.

 Prior to joining BB&T in January 2000, Mr. Barnes was director of MBA annual programs at the Babcock School of Management of Wake Forest University.  He had previously served in a series of management positions at the university which he joined  in 1990.

 A graduate of the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, Mr. Barnes holds a Master of Science degree from Miami University (Ohio) and an MBA from the Babcock School of Management.  He also completed a summer program in European business studies at St. Peter’s College, Oxford University, Oxford, England.

 Mr. Barnes and his family live in Pfafftown, NC.

Hugh J. Quinn, executive director of the Northwest North Carolina Chapter, has served with the Red Cross since 1979 in various positions in North Carolina, Florida, Alabama and Connecticut. 

His prior position as Chapter Solutions Manager had him actively providing guidance to thirteen chapters in central North Carolina and coastal South Carolina.  Also during this time, he served in various disaster roles in response to Hurricanes Katrina, Ophelia and Rita to name a few. 

He holds an M.B.A. from Crummer Graduate School of Business, Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Connecticut. 

Hugh and his wife, Margaret, have one daughter and two pets.  He enjoys photography, golf and hiking.
